Biggest risks in IPv6 today

You Company Should Be Getting Ready For IPv6

  • If you're not currently deploying IPv6 locally, or at least experimenting with IPv6 in a lab setting, the time has come for you to begin to do so.
  • Deploying IPv6 support will be a team effort, so make sure your conversation includes:
    • your network engineers
    • your domain name server administrators
    • your system administrators
    • your support staff
    • your security and abuse handling people
    • your vendor

Certification for IPv6 in InfoTrek

Transition Mechanisms

1.       Dual Stack - support both Internet Protocol in parallel within one network
a.       Dual Stack in a device means Both IPv4 and IPv6 stacks enabled
b.      Application(IPv4 and IPv6) can talk both
c.       Is a network which all of the nodes are both IPv4 and IPv6 enabled.
d.      Dual Stack network are capable of processing IPv4 and IPv6 traffic simultaneously(Good interoperability)
e.      Is one of several solutions for migrating from IPv4 to IPv6, but it is also one of the most expensive
f.        Easy way to deploy, Easy to use,  flexible, bring up 2 protocol in parallel with first
g.   It will increase the system resources, and decrease the performance of devices.

       2.       Tunnels - encapsulates one protocol within another (e.g. IPv6 in IPv4, IPv4 in IPv6)
·         Used to implement the interconnection between the isolated IPv6 network distributed in an IPv4 network or isolated IPv4 network distributed in an IPv6 network.

a.       Enable IPv6 islands or individual nodes to communicate over an IPv4 network
b.      Allow IPv6 traffic to be carried across an IPv4 network
c.       Two modes of tunneling support are possible:
                                                               i.       Configured (Manual) Tunneling
1.       Simple to deploy, allow transport of IPv6 packets over IPv4 network
2.       Cost effective of obtaining IPv6 connectivity
                                                             ii.      Automatic Tunneling
1.       IPv4 compatible IPv6
2.       IPv6 over IPv4
3.       IPv6 to IPv4 – uses 6to4 relay to connect to an IPv6 network without the need to configure explicit tunnels This is often hosted by a third party outside of enterprise and uses IPv6 address
4.       ISATAP(Intra-Site Automatic Tunnel Addressing Protocol) – provide for a client to client tunnel or client to router tunnel and requires no manual configuration
5.       Tunnel Broker – TSP Tunnel Broker over TCP.UDP, IPv4 and IPv6. Uses Tunnel Broker in the server or router to traverse NATs
6.       Teredo (developed by Microsoft proponent) – used for connection to the IPv4 Internet. This protocol will make a hole in Firewall and will allow traversal of Network Address Translators (NAT). Teredo is more commonly found in home networks rather enterprise networks

3.       Translation – translates packets between protocols (e.g. IPv6 to IPv4)
a.       Enable IPv4 only network & nodes to communicate with IPv6 only network & nodes
b.      Translation at transport layer or IP layer, & application layer gateways
c.       IPv6 stateless address auto-configuration
·         Used for interworking between IPv6 only network and IPv4 only network.
·         Translation devices are located on the border of two network. They need to translate corresponding field of IP header and translate the IP address carried in the packet body. The device translating IP addresses in packet is called an application level gateway(ALG)

(Sharing)Research Information - IPv6 Brings a New Wave of Opportunities

IPv6 and the Internet of Things

The Internet of Things means the continued growth and development of an open, global Internet. Is it just about replacing IPv4 addresses like "213.168.103.126" with weird looking IPv6 addresses like "2001:41C8:51:27E::10"?

Getting from nothing to something

IPv4 was the main tool used to create the global internet. It was an IT success story, of getting from nothing to something for everyone. It wasn't perfect.

IPv4
  • Security Issues - IPsec is optional
  • IP addresses is exhaustion
  • Etc.

Getting from something to something better

Jumping from version 4 to version 6 will simplify the networking world. The simple fact that IPv6 has a zillion addresses means the workarounds used with IPv4 can be removed. The simple Internet model of sending a packet from one address to another was broken with NAT(Network Address Translation).

With IPv6, there is no need for private addresses.

Should I switch to IPv6 in 2013?

For an enterprise, yes
For a residential user, no

When an enterprise refreshes its technology, it makes sense to have a strategy that insists on new kit that can handle IPv6. It makes sense to build new IPv6 services alongside new IPv4 services. There is no pressure to upgrade existing services to use IPv6.

At home, most of the components needed to make sure IPv6 replaces IPv4 already in place. The OS can talk IPv6. Most home computer understand IPv6 and many home routers. Many internet services have IPv6 addresses. Unfortunately, many people can't reach them because their ISP only does IPv4.

Can I face the change?

I will learn, and I will change my servers. IPv4 enabled the Internet and IPv6 will enable the Internet of Things. If I want a future in internet IT, I must update my skills. IPv6 and the Internet of Things are the future.

Benefit of IPv6

Benefit of IPv6

  • Larger Address Space - 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456 usable addresses

  • New Packet Format and Header

  • Integrated Internet Protocol Security(IPsec) - uses cryptographic security services to provide Confidentiality, Authentication, Data Integrity. For example, encryption of packets, and authentication of the sender of packets

  • Auto-Configuration - improve manageability adn reduce network administration costs

  • Plug and Play - Easier for users to connect their device to the network. Configuration happens automatically

  • No more NAT - Eliminate the need of NAT, because that will cause networking problems in end to end nature of the Internet.

  • Efficient Routing - Header overhead is minimized

Reason why your business should implement/apply IPv6 now?

Why potential company must start moving toward to IPv6?

  • Prevent Increased Costs

If your company do not have enough addresses use, then you will hire network administrator to configure the NAT for your company, it will directly cause your company need to paid out extra salary to hiring people.

If your network administrator want you to buy the networking gear to support more network can use with your IPv4. You will need to take out the company money to buying the IPv4 networking gear or tools so that can join to the network.

IPv6 will reducing the use of cost.
  • Growth your business to Global

After implement the IPv6, your company are capable to expand your business through global. Since, many of the company at other country already implement and migrate to IPv6. You can grab opportunity to continue communicate or negotiate and doing business with these different country. It will help your company build a new path of business.
  • Auto implementation of security

IPv6 is built in security mind, however compare to IPv4, security is the optional features. IPv6 have provided a good security feature, which is IPsec, it can protect the traffic between source and destination. Furthermore, give a good protection to make sure the integrity of packet(data), confidentiality and other security features in traffic.

I hope that you can understand that IPv4 is totally running out of addresses, now is the time to migrate or implement IPv6 into your company. Your business after applying with the IPv4 and IPv6, it is the chance to growth up your business easily through the world. I strongly believe that your hateful competitor will plan to do so. Start to work your IPv6 and your existing IPv4 in your business, it will provide a great long term future for your business. The first step is as good as half over.

What is IPv4 & IPv5 & IPv6

IPv4

What is IPv4?

Is the fourth version in the development of the Internet Protocol and capable routes most traffic in the internet.

IPv5

What is IPv5?

In the late 1970s, a Internet Protocol named ST protocol, known as The Internet Stream Protocol.
  • Created for the experimental transmission of voice, video, and distribution simulation
  • Our PC, device don't use IPv5

IPv6

What is IPv6?

Is the Internet Protocol Version 6, designed to provide advantages to overcome the IPv4.
  • Enable device to join network and connect to the internet to communicate with other devices.
  • Without IPv6, new services and application cannot GROW to allow more devices or business to connect.

Weaknesses of IPv4

Weaknesses of IPv4

Running Out of Internet Addresses

  • IPv4 only have 32 bits
  • Internet Growth is limited
  • IPv4 no longer have any of usage IP adresses, Solution is use NAT.

System Management Costs

  • Maximum use of labour(hardware, workers), since the IPv4 IP address is limit, so buying more devices to support the configuration of NAT, and hiring more people to configure the NAT.
  • Hardware: Router, Switch, Cable, and others
  • Workers: Network Administrator, Expert Networking people to configure NAT

IPsec is Optional for IPv4

  • IPv4 devices such as routers, switchs are not implement with IPsec, so using IPv4 devices are less security.

In conclusion, after IPv6 is arrived, those weaknesses of IPv4 is completely eliminated. First, IPv6 is support 128 bits compare to the IPv4, IPv4 just 32 bits. IPv6 is larger than IPv4 with 4 times of bits. Second, IPv6 is trying to reduce cost in use of labour such as hardware or workers. After applying or migrate IPv6, he/she no need to buy a lot of hardware to support configuration of NAT, or no necessary to hiring many networking workers to configure NAT anymore.Third, IPsec is mandatory in IPv6, if he/she use IPv6, all those devices such as routers, switches will automatic apply IPsec in this all devices.

  1. IPv6 has a huge amount of IP address.
  2. IPv6 help to reduce the use of labour.
  3. IPsec is mandatory in IPv6.

*What do you guy think? Anymore Weaknesses in IPv4?

Differentiation of IPv6 and IPv4

Figure 1: Differentiation of IPv4 and IPv6

Good Afternoon, Ladies and Gentlemen, we are from InfoTrek. This post is to aware you all that our IPv4 is totally running out.

This post is to brief you all regarding about the Differentiation between IPv6 and IPv4.

Furthermore, We are conclude that nowadays the IP address of IPv4 are no able to cover the world of usage IP address. That is why the IPv6 coming out, to overcome the weaknesses of IPv4.

What is IPv6?

IPv6 is a another new of Internet Protocol similar with IPv4.

Purpose of IPv6:
  • Device use IPv6 as source and destination addresses to pass/travel the packet(data) over a network.
  • Integrated Security - IPsec
  • Mobility Features
The reason of IPv6 coming out is because:

For Future Growth of the Internet

The End of IPv4

Figure 1: The End of IPv4 in Asia Pacific and Europe Country

Morning Ladies and Gentlemen, We are from InfoTrek. This post is to aware you all that our IPv4 is totally running out.

Why?

The reason is because nowadays those huge amount of devices requires the IP address to use. For example, your laptop, smart phone, TV, and others.

Figure 2: The maximum use of IP address

Today, I would like to talk about why IPv6 is such a hot topic. Why we need to aware for it? Why not we keep using the IPv4.

I believe that you will start asking me why I should implement IPv6 since my IPv4 still working. Try to imagine that our world don't have anymore IP address to use, how we going to join the network and access to the internet. If our world don have internet how we going to play Facebook, Google search, or even running your business and others?
